Here in the Northeast, we don’t have the luxury of year-round warm
weather to make our transportation of choice a sexy convertible. Although
the fall and winter seasons allow us to wear opulent tweed overcoats and
plush cashmere sweaters, brisk temperatures and roofless driving are just
not complementary.
The main culprit, you see, is mixing velocity with wind. The faster you
go, the colder it gets - wind chill, the experts call it. If only there
was a way to deflect the wind away from the passenger cabin...
Enter the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet and its magical AIRCAP
system. As speed increases, the E-Class deploys an airfoil from the windshield
header that deflects the flow of air up and over the cabin. Meanwhile,
a height-adjusting mesh screen rises between the rear head restraints.
The end result is a cabin virtually shielded from wind chill and wind noise.
Warm air from the climate control stays in, cold air rushing over the top
stays out.
And if you’re still chilly, the E-Class can be equipped with the
AIRSCARF system. First introduced with the SLK, AIRSCARF is a pair of vents
integrated in the headrests providing warm air at neck-level.
Voila, drop-top cruising in the winter!
