Allowing femininity to equate with both sheer curve-accentuating form
flattering silhouettes and the power proclaiming masculine inspired suits
the consummate auteur Stella McCartney treated viewers at her Fall 2011
fashion show to an elegant display of signature looks and inspired experimental
creations that were classically vanguard.
Proportion play was interspersed throughout the show. From oversized
tuxedo jackets and overcoats, to voluminous sleeves and from drop shoulders
to slouchy sweaters the play accentuated the figure with grace that equaled
the uber-feminine looks in the show.
With an arsenal of disparate textures that included Issey Miyake inspired
pleats, metallic laminated knits, gold Mylar, tulle, hand embroidery, chunky
knits, wool and crushed velvet the designer found inspiration in the “boyfriend” jacket,
scuba wear, men’s tailoring, le Smoking and elegant cocktail dresses.
Daring dresses complete with sexy flesh reveling cutouts shaded by polka
dotted tulle are the looks that will be seen on red carpets as the sexiness
is delicately tempered by lovely silhouettes. The metallic fabrics, created
by bonding shiny foil to wool, will make the fashion magazines, as these
statement-making pieces are sculptural and arresting.
Adding curve to the collection is an elegant aside to the designer’s
linear oeuvre. Expressing femininity with ease, even in the most man tailored
cuts, is a McCartney signature. The advancement of her imagination is deftly
handled in this collection and nearly each piece possesses a striking presence
