Audi maintains a unique identity among a crowded road of German automobiles, exemplified by uncluttered design, all-wheel drive, and intuitive ergonomics. The TT kicked up Audi’s desirability factor, before the R8 supercar launched Ingolstadt toward the far reaches of galactic reverie.
Closer to Terra Firma in the realm of daily driving fantasy is the all-new S5 coupe. The massive 354 hp V8 engine stuffed in the small A4 body is not unlike bolting a Saturn V rocket to the belly of a Gulfstream jet.
The cumulative effect of Audi’s design efforts in addition to their continued prowess with performance and engineering has produced one of the finer coupes on the market today. “The Audi A5 is the most beautiful car I have ever designed,” Walter de’Silva, head of Volkswagen Group Design, says with absolute conviction.
The exterior shape is slippery and aggressive, demonstrating Audi’s more extroverted style of recent years. Passersby are quick to notice the strip of LED lights under the headlights, part of the sharp new look that will soon make all Audis stand further from the crowd.
